Role: Seed and Witchery Visual Merchandising Co-Ordinator
In the early 2000s, as the Visual Merchandising Co-Ordinator, my brief for this window was to design and oversee the production of these custom stairs through a creative service company for Witchery’s winter window installation. Ensuring the build for each set of stairs fit each unique window size and to communicate implementation instruction to stores in the VM guide, while serving as the main point of contact for any logistical or installation challenges that arose during the roll out.

As part of the window props, I needed to source these beautiful Bentwood Chairs for our most prominent and flagship stores. I personally sourced each chair, which at the time was a huge challenge, within budget, along with the allocation and logistics responsibilities of the stairs and the wooden floors. I remember having a car load of wooden floors! I think back at the role I had here and the responsibilities I had which were pretty big for a girl straight out of Uni, but I loved it. What a role!

The Creative Designer for Witchery and Seed was everything I aspired to be. Her office was like a living Pinterest board, adorned with mood boards, samples, and magazine cutouts. When she suggested tearing up paper and stringing it up, I thought it was genius—and it was. The dramatic effect was undeniable. However, tearing up enough paper for every store was quite the challenge. VM Life!

I recall a particular instance while preparing a window display for Witchery. I embarked on a journey, meticulously scouring various wholesalers in search of the perfect color and size of pebbles to complement the ensemble curated by our head stylist. Additionally, I ensured that the pebbles were conveniently packaged and capable of being delivered. It’s the attention to these seemingly minor details that significantly contribute to the creation of captivating window displays, thereby enhancing the overall customer experience and enticing them to step into the store.

Under the Head of VM’s guidance, I designed a striking white-themed 3D cluster for our Christmas windows, diverging from traditional holiday aesthetics. After refining it to match her vision, I coordinated with concept creators and supervised in-house production. This project is a favorite, enhanced by festive fashion ensembles and gift displays, resulting in a magical window display. Additionally, managing store allocations, logistics, and the initial setup on Chapel Street were integral aspects of my role in this endeavor.
